Symbolic Imagery
with Kathe Caldwell, CCHT

Thursday, February 4, 2021
4 to 5 pm PST

(7 to 8 pm EST)

Symbols are fascinating tools. When used within imagery, they allow us to explore emotions and beliefs that are often hidden beyond the veil of conscious awareness. Although all imagery is technically symbolic and metaphoric, Kathe calls the imagery in her book “symbolic imagery,” as the symbols are the primary focus and method through which meaning is received.

Within this webinar, Kathe will discuss distinct aspects of symbols to interpret, (sound, shape, size, color, motion, scent, etc.) as well as the importance of personal and universal symbols. She will guide you through a symbolic imagery, then you will break into groups of two and ask one another a list of prepared symbol-related questions. You will come away with some easy and practical tools to help clients better understand their imagery to make real-life use of their discoveries.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES FOR CE:

  1. Define Symbolic Imagery and its benefits.
  2. Identify the two types of symbols and their importance.
  3. Learn simple questions to ask clients that deepen their understanding of symbols from their imagery.

1 CE is included for CA nurses and for LMFT, LCSW, LPCC/LEP as required by CA Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Kathe Caldwell is a guided imagery therapist, hypnotherapist, and drug and alcohol counselor. Over the last twenty years she has witnessed the simplicity and power of imagery as a therapeutic discovery tool. Through the years, her students and clients from her private practice and recovery programs have asked where they could find the imageries she facilitated. To her knowledge, there were no symbolic imageries that existed in script version with corresponding questions. This culminated in her writing, “The Guided Imagery Handbook Using Symbols and Metaphor” which offers 52 imagery scripts with corresponding questions for group and individual work. In addition to assisting her private practice and recovery clients, Kathe trains and certifies psychologists and health-care providers in hypnosis and guided imagery to better assist their clientele.
