Hello Community,

Bev Hollander

I am sad to say, I’ve lost my dear co-editor, Judith Ewing.  She is fine, don’t misunderstand me, her life is just taking her in a different direction now.  As a result, she is stepping down from her role.  I want YOU!!  Please consider contacting me – email bev@sheppardwest.com – to talk about what you might have to offer as my Co-editor.

Warmly, Bev Hollander

Judith’s thoughts:

Judith Ewing

Centered within the esoteric theme of “Enlightenment,” another powerfully creative issue of ImagiNews has evolved. The scene is set by the striking beauty of our cover – Belinda Paton’s painting entitled “Pink Lotus.” From there, the submissions provide an eclectic view regarding the attainment of Enlightenment. After being dark last month, we welcome the return of Dr. Epstein’s column which discusses the place of Imagination in the context of Enlightenment. Other submissions approach this theme though theoretical-based orientations and through discussions of everyday practical uses of Imagery within both professional settings and our authors’ lives. There are also submissions of a whimsical nature to assist our travel along the road toward Enlightenment. Bev and I hope that you enjoy this very special issue.

Based on the requests of those wanting to submit their work to ImagiNews, Bev and I jumped into action and created an all- important SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES for you. (See p. 5) These guidelines will provide information regarding the requirements, deadline, word count, etc. four our journal.

This brings us to your co-editors request to put on you r thinking caps one more time. We have room for a couple of articles for the June issue themed “Ritual” due May 1.

I humbly and graciously appreciate the Enlightenment that individually and collectively enriches this issue, and me through your presented thoughts.

Judith

Bev’s thoughts:

Bev Hollander IPY 2010

Enlightenment is as simple as a new understanding of the same old thing or as complicated as becoming an Enlightened Being. The Image that comes to my mind when I think of the latter is of a smiling, meditating Buddha who appears to be in a constant state of bliss. I do believe it is possible to achieve said state. Occasionally I find myself getting glimpses of the true ease and happiness that can be found there – at least a big enough glimpse to notice a difference between ordinary, everyday plodding versus a quiet, restful and contented space no matter what surrounds me in that moment. May we find Enlightenment!

Thanks to each and every one of you for your generous and thought provoking submissions. Because of your contributions, ImagiNews continues to deliver high quality material, so much of which I find Enlightening. After you read this issue, please consider writing us with your thoughts. Hearing from you enables us to better meet your needs in the production of this journal.

Bev

Bev’s Thoughts

Here’s another ImagiNews – water under the bridge flowing downstream to you, our faithful readers and members. This issue itself flowed quite nicely, in complete contrast to our previous issue. Juliet, II’s President, reached out to her many friends and colleagues and we have been blessed with the most submissions ever. WOW!!!! We even have enough to save for our March and June issues.

Judith and I are now moving in a nice rhythm as we work towards release of each issue. There has been a clear Transition to this place of ease and comfort with each other. Judith has that “Southern Charm” that could talk the leg off of a dog when she asks for something. I am learning how to use it to my advantage as well and am very grateful for this lesson. I must say, the honor bestowed upon me as your Imagery Person of the Year has touched me deeply. I hadn’t realized my contribution, nor thought I had done anything special, particularly in my work with ImagiNews. Perhaps not so very surprisingly, I found it challenging to receive such gifts and forced myself to stay in an open-armed and receiving stance to take in the praise and love. Thank you so very much. The award is absolutely beautiful and holds a place of honor in my home. (more…)

Bev Hollander

Wow, what a ride! I joined your Board in January of 2007. March 2007 was my first issue of ImagiNews, and I can hardly believe it – December’s issue will be 5 full years! I am feeling very proud of where we started and where we have come. From a single editorship we have evolved to a jointly shared effort. Yes, what a ride!!!

As we mentioned on our list-serve, Judith & I are a bit later than originally intended with this issue’s publication. We regret any inconvenience this delay may have caused you. As a benefit to all of us, the delay has given me the Opportunity to ponder my contribution and, for both of us, the Opportunity to create an even more spectacular issue for you.

Judith Ewing

Between the time spent on editing and the moment we put the issue “to bed,” Judith & I have the Opportunity to communicate regularly by email and telephone. The same optimism and excitement we feel when we decide on the issue’s theme comes full circle as we laugh together and finish the work that we believe so ably and aptly demonstrates that chosen theme. Combine that excitement with the joy of seeing the finished product from Jenn, our Graphics Designer, and we are always amazed at how professional and letters to us confirm we are on the right track.

Judith and I divided the editing process completely this time and, as a result, we are looking forward to reading some of your contributions for the very first time when it returns from Jenn. We hope you find our content educational and rewarding, as this is always our intention.

I am so grateful to Judith for her support and intelligent enrichment of this journal – your journal. And now is your Opportunity to contribute to our greatness with your wise words and stories for the December issue with its theme of Transitions. Judith and I anticipate continued joy in our work together so please give us something to “chew” and send it to us by Nov 10th. Send to: bev@ sheppardwest.com or judith1001@msn.com

Please remember, your Letters to the Editor are always welcome at any time – same email addresses.

Thank you for all you do!!!!!

Warmly,
Bev & Judith

Editor’s Comments – Bev Hollander

Here we meet again. Portals was a theme that Judith and our dear friend & colleague (also your President!), Juliet, suggested. The story is exquisitely told by Judith in an article herein. Serendipity and synchronicity abound!

As the submission deadline approaches, I almost always worry that we won’t have enough to fill the issue. Phew! I was wrong once again. Does this show a lack of Faith? I wonder. I thank each and every one of you for your support, insight and creativity. You make ImagiNews GREAT!!!!!

Co-Editor’s Comments – Judith Ewing

For each of us, Portals are experienced in many ways as they take us beyond and through such excitingly different adventures. Hope that you enjoy the Portal perspectives and excursions within our June 2011 ImagiNews! I loved working with Bev on this issue, and I love your contributions! You are such an integral part of our ImagiNews. What Portals will open as you begin thinking about contributions for our September theme – “Opportunities”. Keep the articles coming! The September deadline is August 10th.

James-Paul Brown – Artist’s Donation

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

One of the difficulties in creating this website was finding suitable images. After much looking,  James-Paul Brown‘s artwork came to our attention.

James-Paul Brown

The beauty of his impressionist style is that it is much like the images one sees in dreams and Guided Imagery experiences.  The lively choices and bold splashes of color made for interesting combination with the content it frames.

We wish to acknowledge and thank James-Paul Brown for the contribution of the 4 paintings we use on our website.

We used only slices of each painting.  Complete images of the paintings can be seen on these two websites: http://jamespaulbrown.com/ and http://www.artiste.com.

We chose “Cupid Takes Aim” and centered on the heart in the painting.  Images are hard wired in the body and reveal one’s heart.  We also mean to show that client centered guided imagery without interpretation is a heart centered way to work with images.

Another painting we used is “Splendito Hotel Portofino”. We see boats on the water in one section and houses in another seen from far above. Interpretation might be that boats or houses represent people – or something else.

Oak Tree

“Tuscany Hillside” captures a hillside from the valley looking up the hillside to the sky. The clouds are rendered in soft pastels puffs and the hill and trees in vivid earthy colors.

“St. Tropez is captured from atop a hill with a tree and leaves framing the picture on the right and top.

“Oak Tree” might be a tree out in our field in spring time.  The yellow of wild mustard looks just like this. I imagine the bees buzzing in a warm vibrant spring day. All is good, healthy and well.

You can click on the refresh button to cycle through the various images on this page.

James-Paul Brown also contributed the cover of March’s issue of ImagiNews.  To find out more about the artist you can download the issue by clicking here and read more about him.

Welcome to the first issue of 2011! This one came together gradually and then in a sudden avalanche, thanks to your response to my request! I am excited to see so many contributions coming from you. Your Passion for Imagery is quite evident. Thank you once again.

Each of the articles in this issue reflect Passion in one form or another: Jann’s Passion for walking and Imagining; Juliet’s Passion for healing in the present moment with Imagery; two members’ expressions of Passion in the form of poetry; Dr. Epstein’s Imagery exercise to direct your Passion in a creative manner; the Passions of our new Board members; Judith’s Passion for art and writing and mine for the same! What more could one ask for? Well, there’s Helen’s story of her Passion as a hospice nurse working with a Passionate client. And then, how about a review of the Passionate book written by our esteemed colleague and President, Juliet Rohde-Brown? That about tops it all off, don’t you think?

We so hope you enjoy this edition of ImagiNews and look forward with Passion and enthusiasm for your next submissions to me or Judith via email to: bev@ sheppardwest. com or judith1001@msn.com. The theme is “Portals” and submissions are due May 15th

Welcome to the Dec issue with its theme of Illumination. Most of this journal has been created by yours truly. Judith Ewing was elected as a new Board Member at our annual Board Retreat and is now my Co-Editor. We met for the first time in person during the Imagery International conference at Vallombrosa. And now we are practically joined at the hip. I think our collaboration will make ImagiNews an even greater product for you. She has already contributed to this issue significantly with her insight and thoughtfulness, as well as a book review. We are excited to be working together. My dream is for her to eventually go solo as ImagiNews’ editor. We might have too much fun for me to give it up though!

Judith Ewing

Judith wanted me to share her thoughts about this issue’s cover artwork as ours was a mutual decision as to which of two pieces we wanted to use. As follows: “Keeping the theme of ‘Illumination’ in mind, my thoughts first centered upon what Illumination represents. To me, Illumination represents a kaleidoscope of beautiful light hues ebbing and flowing throughout, over, under, and around our heart-field, simultaneously caressing the heart with love while moving us toward enlightenment. Being heart-centered during the evolution of enlightenment is an important key. Also, love is a major part of the process of enlightenment: love of self, others, and the planet.

Thus, what I see depicted in the heart picture are gentle directional pathways through which loving light enters the heart-field. Such energetic Illumination begins a process wherein intermingling, interacting, and integrative movements of enlightenment fuel the heart with healing energy. As healing occurs, movements of enlightenment additionally regenerate and stimulate the intensity of luminous light which then flows outward, again through the same directional pathways, returning love to others and the universe.

In viewing the heart picture further, another thought that comes to mind is this: whenever I think of someone who becomes my very best friend, someone who unconditionally loves and guides me along my path of enlightenment, I refer to them as my “heart friend”. To close my eyes and think of them creates gratitude and Illumination within my soul. Thanks, Bev, for the delight in deepening our new friendship, and for the joy you bring to our co-editorship of the ImagiNews.”

Now to the theme at hand:

Definitions of Illumination

1. The act of Illuminating, or supplying with light; the state of being Illuminated.

2. That which Illuminates or gives light; brightness; splendor; especially, intellectual light or knowledge.

3. The special communication of knowledge to the mind by God; inspiration.

I had never considered the third definition. Nor had I consciously associated intellectual light or knowledge (from #2) with God’s inspiration. I do believe the two go hand in hand and they happen all the time – light & inspiration. There is definitely a spiritual aspect to it for me. How about for you?
Each one of the articles and contributions herein contain Illuminating thoughts and inspiration. Please enjoy!

March’s theme is Passion. Please send your contributions to either me – bev@sheppardwest.com or to Judith at judith1001@msn.com by Feb 15th.

Happy Holidays!

Bev

Thanks for joining me! I also hope you will join us at the 2nd Annual Imagery Int’l Conference, co-sponsored by Beyond Ordinary Nursing, October 22-24. Be sure to check it out on our website here – six great presentations, experiential Imagery sessions and 11 CEU’s. Our entertainment Saturday night should be a big WOW!! You’d be silly to miss it.

Serendipity – finding something valuable and pleasurable when looking for something else. Who hasn’t experienced that in their life? I can tell you that this whole issue of ImagiNews has been one of Serendipity. People have been coming out of the ether-net with wonderful ideas, research and stories which prompted me to give this issue its theme. I even have a couple left-over for the Dec issue. Unheard of!

Most of the articles do not reflect the theme in its literal sense and still, the issue entirely reflects Serendipity. As you read it, I am certain that you will find something valuable and pleasurable even as you look for something else.

I am a person of few words this time around – I just want you to enjoy Serendipity. Please share your thoughts and feelings after having read this particular issue. Your response gives true meaning to the work!

Warmly,

Bev

P.S. The theme for the next issue is: Illumination. Give it your best shot, please. Send your contribution to me directly: bev@sheppardwest.com.
