NEW! Transformational Imagery at California Institute of Integral Studies

This three unit class begins September 9, 2013, and is offered through the Master’s Program in Integrative Health Studies. You do not need to be currently enrolled at CIIS, and could take the course under “special student” status. It is a three hour class that meets weekly for three and a half months.

Through a compelling and extensive body of research connected to the field of psychoneuroimmunology, we have learned that conscious and unconscious images within us have a direct impact on our physiology, offering guided imagery an important role for a range of health-related conditions. Examples include the ability to lower cholesterol and glucose levels in the blood, heighten short-term immune cell activity, lower blood pressure, reduce complications related to surgery, as well as anxiety relief and enhance well-being. An interactive-style of imagery facilitation which navigates the mind-body-emotions-spirit matrix will be taught and practiced, along with an understanding of its applications for a variety of health and lifestyle concerns.

For more information, contact the Integrative Health Studies Department. Course Description. CIIS Syllabus Transformative Imagery.

Certificate in Deep Imagination through John K Kennedy University

All Continuing Education Certificate courses may be taken as either certificate courses or as stand-alone Continuing Education courses. Prerequisites must be observed. Credit for MFT, LCSW, Psychologists and RN’s.

Over the past 30 years, research has demonstrated the effectiveness of guided imagery with mood, happiness, trauma, performance, health, and creativity. The power of imagery lies in its capacity to access unconscious and pre-conscious processes when approaching therapeutic goals. By learning how to tap into a client’s key symbols and metaphors, the capacity for change accelerates, positively influencing the emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and behavioral outcomes.

This certificate program will allow you to build competence with an interactive-style of imagery that is non-scripted. It can be applied toward individuals, couples, groups and with children, to address a range of topics including complex grief, depression, pain, insomnia and other symptoms, end of life issues, and PTSD.

Certificate requirements: A total of 45 hours is required. This includes four core courses and at least seven electives. New electives will be available in each catalog and different core courses are offered throughout the year.

Five Branches Mind-Body Medicine Certification

Continuing Education Units from Book

Also five CEU units are available to California MFT’s and LCSW’s for reading Healing and Transformation Through Self Guided Imagery, registering below, and successfully completing the post-test and evaluation. Because the Board of Behavioral Sciences has recently expanded the methods for receiving continuing education credit, this interactive, electronic format is a BBS approved way to personally tailor your professional learning.

As a BBS Continuing Education Provider (PCE 4431), I am able to offer this book as course work to incorporate self guided imagery as a discipline to enhance the understanding and practice of counseling or social work.

To receive your 5 CEU units, register through PayPal ($45.00, includes a copy of the book), and complete and submit the Post Test and Evaluation.

Being Contagious In All the Best Ways and Imagery News

by Leslie Davenport

Leslie Davenport

You know what it’s like when an angry person walks into a room, and tension ripples through the group atmosphere? Or how calm you feel when you talk with a particular friend, regardless of the topics? And how fun it is to be caught in a laughter fest?

Spiritual traditions have described, and others have instinctually known, that we are contagious – we emit moods, vibrations, states of being that impact those around us. And science has recently offered one explanation with the discovery of mirror neurons.

This is great news! Our very being communicates. And the more conscious and present we become, the more we can make a positive contribution in simple day-to-day moments. Consider that when we interact with others while in a peaceful, loving state, it’s not just modeling behavior: You are actually lighting up the very nervous system of another.

This doesn’t mean denying feelings or hiding out if you are not in the best mood. It is about recognizing the choices we have, the impact we make, and the practices available to us.

Practice: Take a few moments to let your breath flow from head to toes, releasing muscular tension on the exhalation, and feeling (more…)

How Trauma Affects the Brain

Monday, June 4th, 2012

We all know that trauma affects the way our patients think. But did you know that recent evidence shows that trauma changes the brain itself?

Bessel van der Kolk, MD reveals that quantitative EEG’s of soldiers show that the brain becomes more disorganized after every new exposure to combat trauma – it’s all part of an upcoming free webinar from NICABM’s Trauma Therapy Series. The webinars will take place every Wednesday at 5:00pm EDT, starting on May 16th. There will be a rebroadcast each week at 6:30pm EDT.

This phenomenon isn’t restricted to service people – it can have an even bigger impact on children with chronic exposure to abuse and neglect.

Dr. van der Kolk will give you insight into how trauma affects the brain – and how advances in neuroscience are creating unique opportunities for research and treatment. You’ll hear:
•    Why understanding how trauma memories are stored is key to treatment
•    How trauma can destroy one’s sense of time – and why this is critical for recovery
•    The four components of an effective trauma treatment
•    The effect of child abuse and neglect upon neurodevelopment
•    Common mistakes practitioners make
•    Can yoga reverse the secondary brain damage caused by trauma?
It’s free to watch – you just have to sign up.
Or, you can get a Gold Subscription for access to the video recordings, audio recordings, transcripts, and possible CE/CME credits.
