Jenny Garrison, as II President-Elect

Jenny Garrison

Jenny Garrison

Dear Imagery Community,

This January I will take the title of President of Imagery International. I extend sincere gratitude to the present Board of Directors, and to current President, Susan Ezra, for their trust and confidence in me. As I step into this position, I promise to give my best.

The field of Imagery is powerful and far reaching. Many of you use Imagery in your work and personal lives in a vast multitude of ways. As an organization, II is in a position to provide a forum for our professional and personal stories that can bring the many diverse ways that we do Imagery into the world. Through our Internet website, through our annual conference, and through the pages of this journal, we are linked to one another. I see II as a “watering hole” — a place where we can come individually to be nurtured and inspired by each other as we use Imagery in our own growth and healing and offer it to others in the same spirit of growth and healing.

From the President’s Desk

Susan Ezra

Greetings Imagery Community:

Susan Ezra

Susan Ezra

I am sending you good wishes for a warm winter holiday season. May it be filled with light, love, family and friends, and some quiet reflective time too. Now is the time for really slowing down and going inside to contemplate what this year has been about, what we are grateful for, what we want to Forgive and what we want to let go of.

According to Chinese Medicine, winter is the home of the north, the element of water, the deer, and the emotion of turning fear into gentleness. As I prepare to complete my six years as a member of the II board, including two years as your president, I am giving some time for reflection.

Imagery International is approaching its 20th anniversary. Each year the association continues to mature in its organizational development, while always remaining a grassroots, caring community of like-hearted and minded individuals who share the common love of Imagery for health and well-being. I have loved seeing our community expand to include many artists and educators as well as healthcare practitioners. And we believe there is energy to expand our community so much more in the coming years! That kind of energy was very present at our October conference.

Honoring the Imagery Person of the Year – Leslie Davenport, LMFT
By Susan Ezra, President of Imagery International

Leslie Davenport (L) Susan Ezra (R)

Leslie Davenport (L) Susan Ezra (R)

Each year we have the distinct pleasure of awarding the Imagery Person of the Year for Imagery International. This person is chosen from our community because of outstanding contribution to the field of Imagery in general or to our organization in particular. This has been a tradition for over a decade now.

The award goes to Leslie Davenport, LMFT, who has devoted 25 years of her career to bringing Guided Imagery into the hospital-healthcare complex. With stylish grace and quiet fortitude she has created many programs and forged many bridges. It all begin in 1989 when she developed an internship program through the spiritual care department at Marin General Hospital in California to offer Guided Imagery and meditation at the bedside for patients and staff. In 1994, she went on to formalize a Marriage Family Therapist training program in guided Imagery, which greatly expanded services for patients.
