What Disease like Symptoms are Related to Flight/Fight/Freeze

Wednesday, November 20th, 2013

Dear Community,

On Imagery Internationals LinkedIn group Judith Westerfield asks the question:

Judith Westerfield

Judith Westerfield

Which do you find to be more effective – Hypnosis and/or Guided Imagery ?????

The ensuing discussion on this topic includes some information from Somatic Experiencing (SE™) which postulates that trauma is held in the body and is reflected in the head.

Below is a diagram from the SE training program showing the relationship between the Fligth Fight Response and diseases resulting from chronic stress or the Freeze state.  Stephan Porges Polyvagal Theory which shows the relationship between the dorsal vagal and ventral vegal nerves and helps to understand what is going on in the Autonomic Nervous System and and trauma symptoms often misdiagnosed as disease.

Diane Poole Heller offers a video title “Hardwired to Heal: Overview of the Reciprocal ANS and the Polyvagal Social Engagement Nervous System” which explains the basis for supporting clients working through the freeze state.

Greetings Imagery Colleagues,

Susan Ezra

Susan Ezra

From darkness comes light/ From quiet comes sound/ From stillness comes forward movement

Solstice means for the sun to stand still-pause-then turn. Turn inward, and harmonize with the natural rhythm of winter. This is the season for slowing down, contemplation, holding the light in the dark, keeping the fires burning for warmth.

The element is water, the emotion is moving fear into gentleness, the organ of winter is the kidney and the animal energy is the blue-black turtle.

We will use Meditation, Guided Integrative Imagery and Chi Gong for individual and collective benefit. Integrative Imagery is a powerful mind-body practice utilizing the imagination to harness our inner wisdom and resources. Through Chi Gong we learn to cultivate our own vital life force while finding balance and harmony in the elements of nature all around us. Sacred chants with Susan Lacroix will be part of the experience as well. In the midst of this busy holiday season, give yourself this gift of light and renewal. (more…)
